About

Fiona Cullinan

Hello!

I founded The Subs Desk in 2013 after working for many years as a UK-based freelance magazine journalist and editor, creating professional content for a wide variety of publications. Having my own mini-agency has allowed me to scale up and adapt to larger clients and a range of editorial needs.

I enjoy all stages of the content journey and can meet clients wherever they're at. I bring an experienced editor's eye to a range of client communications channels: website, social and ecomms. I edit for accuracy, consistency, sense, SEO, brevity, legality and target audience.

For broader projects, such as content migrations, website redesigns and SEO/content strategies, I tend to work collaboratively with clients, agencies and other freelancers.

Earlier in my career, I trained in magazine journalism at the London College of Printing (now Communication). I've edited for national newspapers, consumer magazines, trade press, B2B brands, and content agencies with blue chip and high street clients. And I've written (mostly) travel features for national newspapers, magazines and on my travel blog.

I moved into digital content early on and spent 10 years doing agency work for clients such as Boots, Asda, RAC, DirectLine, Churchill Insurance and Grant Thornton UK. This included developing content and social media marketing strategies, carrying out content audits, training agency and client staff in SEO and content creation, and analysing KPIs for clients to inform better decision making.

When not staring at a screen, I enjoy analogue art practices – mainly monoprinting, collage and walking art. I also still occasionally blog for pleasure at fionacullinan.com.
