The Subs Desk was founded in 2013 by Fiona Cullinan, a magazine journalist with 30 years’ experience in journalism and corporate communications, and 17 years’ experience online.
Fiona has worked as a sub-editor and writer for national newspapers, consumer magazines, trade press, content hubs and content marketing agencies with blue chip and high street clients.
She enjoys the whole content journey from content strategy to writing and editing to ongoing governance, and brings an experienced editor’s eye to all communications, editing for accuracy, sense, SEO, brevity, legality and target market, and generally preparing professional content for publication.
Fiona is the founder of The Subs Desk but she also employs and works with other freelancers and agencies when collaborating on larger projects.
She trained as magazine journalist at the London College of Printing (now Communication), going on to work as a freelance subeditor and travel writer, with features published in the Independent on Sunday, Sunday Mirror, the Metro and on her travel blog.
As a web editor, she spent 10 years doing agency work for clients including Boots, Asda, RAC, DirectLine, Churchill Insurance and Grant Thornton UK. From 2000-2002, she worked as homepage editor for one of the UK’s earliest and biggest ISPs, Freeserve (now Wanadoo), responsible for three daily publishings of the homepage, developing strategy for maximising hits and analysing web statistics for senior management.
In 2006, she completed a joint degree in Creative and Professional Writing and Pop Music, and once sang for Deputy PM Gordon Brown.
